Happy holiday Monday! I hope you had a wonderful Fourth celebration yesterday. I also hope you get to enjoy an “off” day today in honor of July 4th.
I want to let you know up front that this week will be a little different. Instead of reading our new chapter on Monday only, we will be reading another chapter on Wednesday. In order to finish our summer study on time, there are two weeks where the format has to change a bit. If you are a personality that likes to know the details up front, prepare to read a chapter today and Wednesday. On Tuesday and Thursday, we will be in the Bible. On Friday, I’ll share something that you can listen to over the weekend.
OK. Business is done and now we can dive into chapter 6 of Woven. Please read the full chapter and take notes in your journal if that is helpful. I want to encourage you to take out your Bible as well. Turn to Exodus and follow along through the chapter titles as you’re reading Angie’s summary. This chapter of Woven will take you through Exodus 15, and I believe it’s very helpful to see the stories in the Bible as she’s retelling them in our book.
How many times have we started a Soul Sister’s study and then been blown away by the intentionality of God’s timing with us? He ordained (long before I chose Woven for us to read) that we would cover this chapter, the Hebrews’ exodus (FREEDOM from slavery), during the week we celebrate freedom as a country. Amazing!
I’m so thankful for the men and women that have fought for our freedom. We live in a very blessed nation, and we should spend some time in gratitude for the freedom we possess. I’m also thankful that our God is for our freedom (physical, emotional, & spiritual). Throughout the Old Testament, we are going to see Him lead His children to freedom over and over.
Of course, we all know what’s coming in the New Testament. God demonstrated His love for us by sending His own son to live and die for us. He overcame death and the grave and lives freely today. Because Jesus lives, we get to live in freedom every moment of every day. Wouldn’t it be such a shame for Jesus to have gone to such lengths for our liberty yet we choose to live in bondage to shame, or anxiety, or defeated thinking, or generational sin, or abuse, or…. ?
Journal some of your thoughts after today’s reading. Record a prayer of gratitude or pleading. I bet God would love to hear from us on the topic of freedom. Let's storm Heaven with requests to experience every bit of the freedom Christ won for us. When we request freedom in Christ, we can be sure we are praying in line with Scripture and God’s will.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Ephesians 3:12
I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119.45
