Woven

What a chapter, right? If you didn’t quite finish yesterday, IT IS OK. Today, you can catch up. At least, read to page 82. We will cover scripture to that point today.

The book of beginnings is so full of content. When we left off with Abraham, we were in Genesis 22, and that is where Abraham took Isaac up Mount Moriah to meet God, our Provider.

In chapter 23 and 24 of Genesis, Sarah died, and Abraham began to search for a wife for Isaac. Rebecca was chosen, and in Genesis 25, Abraham died after having taken another wife.

The end of Genesis 25 tells the story of Rebecca’s pregnancy with Jacob and Esau. Honestly, I just need to pause and point to where in Genesis each of our stories is found. If you want to read more about any one of them, I want you to know where to find them:

Genesis 27 – Jacob deceived Isaac and stole Esau’s blessing.

Genesis 28 – Rebecca sent Jacob. Away in order to protect him. This chapter also details Jacob’s dream with the ladder to heaven.

Genesis 29 – Jacob met Rachel, was deceived by Laban, married both sisters, & had a lot of children with Leah and the two maidservants.

Genesis 30 – Jacob and his family prosper, and he asked Laban to allow them to return to Canaan. However, Laban won’t allow it. He believed the Lord had blessed him because of Jacob (30:27)

Genesis 31 – There’s an interesting interaction between Jacob and Laban that you may want to read on your own.

Finally, Jacob was able to freely leave for Canaan, to return home with his family. Obviously, he was very afraid of meeting Esau. On his way, he had another encounter. I am praying that we all take notice of the very personal way God interacted with Jacob. He does the same thing with each of us.

Read: Genesis 32: 24-32.

Girls, I get made fun of a LOT for having many, many “favorites” when it comes to Scripture, but this is really one of my favorites. I’ve grown to love the struggle and what it signifies. I appreciate the courage of Jacob to hold on in face-to-face wrestling for his own blessing. And, I’m thankful for the tender way he’s given a new name. Jacob (the trickster) was going to be given a new name.

On page 80, Angie said, “Everything, everything about Jacob’s identity was wrapped up in that name. His reputation. His sin. His lies and twisted plans. ‘Jacob’ was who he’d always been.”

But, God decided it was time to change that. His grace is amazing.

Journal – As you journal today, I would love for you to listen to this. It’s a summary of Genesis 32: 24-32 from Pastor Steven Furtick. It’s actually a clip from one of his sermons. I believe it’s a powerful message. Use it to write thoughts and maybe a prayer to the Lord after today’s lesson.

Prayer – Ladies, you know your story with the Lord. You know what your Enemy tempts you to hold on to as your identity and how it causes you to miss God’s blessings. I certainly know my own. Let’s write out our own, personal prayers today. Let’s wrestle with God and not let go until He blesses us or reminds us of the personal blessings we’ve already received that mark us as HIS.

I’ll see you back here tomorrow for more of God’s goodness displayed on His chosen family.
