Read: Geneses 1:27 - 2:24

On page 19, Angie said, “Nothing in Scripture indicates that God was bored or restless or was suffering from any lack of fellowship, and therefore we human beings became something “good” for him to have around, as if he needed us as much as we needed him. Internally within the Trinity, God has always enjoyed the highest and best experience of community and fellowship possible, without need of anything external to make things “better” for him. The Father, Son, and Spirit have been hanging out together forever, in a perfect bond of love and unity and relational happiness.

In this way, God doesn’t need us, and that’s what makes it beautiful. He chose to make us. Because he wanted to. To show his glory.”

Journal: Keep in mind that chapter 2 of Genesis steps back and gives a more detailed account of God’s creation of man. I hope you’ve read it all slowly. This is part of the Bible we can read too hurried, because we’re sure we know all about it already. I believe God will show us something new if we slow down.

Answer these questions from your reading. Take the time to go back to the Bible if needed.

  • On repeat, chapter 1 of the creation account describes all that God had made and calls it good. Then, in Genesis 2:18, the Bible says that God looked at part of His creation and said, “It is not good…” What did God say wasn’t good about His creation at that point?

  • Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Consider that both man and woman were created in the image of God. What does that mean to you?

  • In the Garden, man and woman were created to cultivate and keep the land. They were to join God in creating a flourishing environment. I believe this is still our calling. Take a moment to journal about how God has designed you to cultivate the world around you. Who do you get to help flourish AND who helps you to grow and develop, to yield much fruit?

I’ve given you a lot to think on today. Don’t be overwhelmed. It’s 100% OK to take your journal as you go today and continue to think on His words and His message all day long.

Prayer: God, we want to flourish, because You’ve made us for it. We want to help others do the same. Because we have been created in Your image, helping others to fully live is what will bring our hearts the greatest joy. We need Your help and guidance to make it happen. We thank you in advance for helping us live on purpose!
