Thankful In All Circumstances

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that is we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 John 5:14
It feels odd to still be living in such a difficult time. Not that we don’t all go through hills and valleys throughout our lives, but the last couple of years…phew. The theme of being thankful in all circumstances seems to be an ongoing mantra. And I am pretty sure I am not alone in that feeling. Honestly, when I was asked to write this, it took me quite a while to pinpoint which circumstance I wanted to highlight because in this trying season, God has explicitly provided and answered so many of my prayers. After a good bit of negotiating in my mind I landed on a specific prayer that God has answered. If you know me, you know that we have 4 children. Our oldest daughter is 15 and her sister that followed her by 12 months is 14. Our oldest is a typical first child. She is confident and sure of herself. When they were little, following in the big sister’s footsteps felt comfortable for my younger daughter. However, in the past couple of years she has struggled trying to find her own way. Her own hobbies, her own style, her true self. As a mother, seeing your child struggle is difficult. So, over the past year or so I have been praying very specifically for her. And isn’t it so funny how we are always surprised when we find our prayers are being answered? Very recently, I have seen a change in my youngest daughter. I have seen her begin to shine and gain confidence. She has been more sure of herself. She has found a love for running and training, a love for serving and helping, and she even recently ran for class president! I know she still has so much growing to do in all the years to come. Even still, I think this answered prayer spoke to me because it reminded me that even in the chaos of the last two years, when it seemed like the world has been falling apart, my God still hears me, little me, with my little prayers. Just as scripture reminds us time and time again, He hears us! He is still answering our prayers.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you with such gratitude that we have a God that hears us in all circumstances! It is incredible that with all of the people and problems in this universe, each one of us is loved and cherished. No prayer is too small for you, Lord. Thank you for listening. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus name, Amen.
