Thankful Hearts - Various Blessings

Today, I am thankful for … my JOB.

"The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it." Genesis 2:15

"Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people..." Colossians 3:23

I think it's important for us to remember work is not a four letter word. Our ability to work is a gift. God invited Adam to work and keep the land before the Fall. His "job" wasn't a consequence of sin. It was a gift! The same is true for us. Our work is something we get to do as creations made in the image of God.

In the course of my lifetime, I have had the opportunity to do so many different kinds of jobs. I bet you can relate....

Student

Babysitting

Retail

Camp counselor

Elementary school teacher

Mom (changing diapers, feeding babies, cleaning)

Mom (chasing, potty-training, playing, cleaning)

Mom (teaching, guiding, helping, cleaning)

Mom (Uber-driving, debating, stalking, CLEANING!)

Business owner

School administrator

Ministry leader and shepherd

Who knows what is next.....

I'm sure your list looks different, but think about it today. Over the course of a lifetime, your jobs have probably changed. But, the calling is the same.... steward the work God has invited you to as unto Him and not to man.

What is the job you get to do today? In what ways are you thankful for this specific invitation to join God in work?

Scripture for further study: 1 Chronicles 22:9-15; 1 Chronicles 25:5-7; 1 Chronicles 27:25-31; Ephesians 2:10; Philippians 4:19

God, I'm so thankful I get to join You in work. In every season and in every job, I've had ample opportunity to depend on You for strength and thank You for the blessings. Some of my work seemed so simple and mundane. Some of it always felt like a challenge. When I look back, all of it feels holy, because it represents spaces of Your world that You entrusted to me. Help us remember that with gratitude. Cause us to work unto and for You and no one else. Amen.
