Week 2 Focus: The Five Senses
Today, I am thankful for … the sense of SOUND.
“Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.” Psalm 150
One of the most precious gifts in our lives are our senses. They become so common to us every day that it’s so easy to take them for granted. This is especially true for our sense of hearing. Be still for a minute and just listen. It may be quiet where you are, but you may hear birds chirping, music, cars going by, a dog barking, people talking or notifications from your phone. We wake up every day assuming we will be able to hear everything just as we always have…..an alarm to wake us, people laughing, a baby crying, a tik tok (clock or app), phone ringing, songs from a play list or live music, sirens, waves crashing on the beach, a minister preaching, etc.
We hardly ever think about our sense of hearing until we begin losing it. Yet, hearing is one of the most common senses to decline for all of us. It is easy to take hearing for granted, which is why it is so important to take time to thank God for the gift of SOUNDS and HEARING.
Do you have a favorite sound that you are praising God for today? Get your tambourine out and sing words for praise to our powerful King!!
Exploring Scripture: Psalm 33:1-9; Psalm 150; Psalm 29:3-9
Dear Majestic Father,
We praise you and thank you for the pleasures of sound, like laughter, praise songs, the ocean, the words “I Love You”, or even a little comment that brightens our day. Never let us take this gift for granted. And, if our hearing becomes impacted, may we follow your plan for the best way to savor the sounds of your creation. Let us always have open ears and hearts to hear your sweet words. Amen
