Thankful Hearts

Week 4 Focus: Four Seasons

Today, I am thankful for…the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Part of the Lord’s design for this earth is seasons. We experience wet and dry, cold and hot, planting season and harvest. We see creation moving through the four seasons each year. Similarly, we move through seasons in our lives as well. We have seasons of sadness, loss, joy, newness and growth. If we believe that God is sovereign, we know that none of these “life seasons” are by mistake. Things we go through are not in vain and situations do not last forever. This is hopeful if we are in a dark season, but scary if we are in a joyful season. The point is, whatever season God is taking us through has a purpose and provides an opportunity to deepen our faith in him.

On a lighter note, it’s fun to see the earth’s different seasons change. I love that I live in a place where I can experience all four seasons and each year can count on a definite change in weather and what my eyes feast on. This is another subtle reminder that God orchestrates everything and he is here with me even in the current weather. My favorite season is fall. I love to feel the crispness in the air and see the leaves change to beautiful oranges, yellows and reds. It’s hard to comprehend that these beautiful leaves are really dying and soon will be a crunchy brown under my feet. The sweet thing is, there is life beyond the death of the leaves. In a short time there will be new spring growth gently popping up after a long winters nap. This provides us the visual opportunity see resurrection play out in God’s creation each year.

What is your favorite season?

Heavenly Father,

You are the orchestrator of everything and make is all work together for your good and glory. You can take what we perceive to be painful and bad and make something purposeful and good. It’s easy to look out the window and grumble at the dreary weather. Help change our perspective on this. When we see unpleasant weather, remind us there is a purpose and this will change. There is hope in everything you do. For this we are thankful. We praise you for the ongoing beauty even in the bleak and the incredible purpose of each season . Amen.
