Songs for the Season—Day 11

Little Drummer Boy - For King & Country

Genesis 49:10

Judah will hold the royal scepter, And his descendants will always rule. Nations will bring him tribute And bow in obedience before him.

Matthew 2:1-12

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” … And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Lyrics:

“Come, they told me (Pa rum pum pum-pum, after every phrase) A newborn King to see Our finest gifts we bring To lay before the king So to honor Him When we come

Little baby I am a poor boy too I have no gift to bring That's fit to give our King Shall I play for you On my drum

Mary nodded The ox and lamb kept time I played my drum for Him

I played my best for Him Then He smiled at me Me and my drum”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we once again rejoice in the birth of the baby king. Our hope lies in this Christ child. "These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of the lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are called and chosen and faithful (Revelation 12:14). Thank you for sending Your son to save us from a death we certainly deserve. As we are opening gifts on Christmas Day, help us to be mindful of the one and only Gift that is timeless, will never get old and worn out, and contains more love than we will ever understand. Amen
