Serve, Share & Shine - Act 2

Breast cancer: Sad when you hear about it. Horrific when you are told you have it.

Have you ever thought to yourself, 'Cancer seems awful. I feel so bad for women who have breast cancer. I am sure it will never happen to me."

Soul Sisters...as we move into ACT 2, let's "serve, share and shine" our hearts out for all the courageous cancer fighters who are battling this dreadful disease.

I've asked a few cancer warriors for their insight as to what was helpful to them while they were in the midst of treatments. Here are some thoughts and ideas.

Treat her normal. Especially in her good days, still include her as if she wasn’t sick. She will let you know if she can’t make it. Ask how she is but she may not want to talk about her recent doctor’s appointments…not because she doesn’t want you to know but because today you are the 5th person to ask.

1-Pray and give her rides to and from treatment.

2-Pray and bring dinner. Even if her husband is the cook of the family, he will need a break too.

3-Pray and write cards and notes of encouragement. This goes a long way!

4-Pray and make a basket for her. There are so many things that can go in it! Healthy snacks, small bottles of juice, a journal, lotion, Jesus Calling book, warm cozy socks are all good. Don’t be offended when treatment is over and they pack up all the ‘pink’ items and give them away as they want to close this chapter as much as possible.

5-Pray and give her a fleece blanket for treatment days. You can make a "no sew" blanket from a couple yards of fleece fabric with fringe ends. (see Jo Ann's for simple instructions)

6-Pray and if you are married, have your husband invite her husband out to do something fun for an afternoon. It is so important to be there for her husband. They feel helpless watching their spouse go through this. They need support and to be with their friends too.

7-If you are unable to "go and do", pray!

Soul Sisters, at the very heart of Christianity is the "act" of being caring and compassionate towards those who are sick. So let's not over think or over complicate this. Let's obey God and "go and do" for our sisters who are battling breast cancer. Please encourage and inspire us with what you did, feel free to include photos/videos.

If you have conquered cancer, then you know is is only ONE chapter in your life, not the whole story. Would you please share what was impactful to you?

If you want to know what Jesus said about caring for and having compassion for those in need, read Matthew 25: 31-46.
