God teaches us about ourselves and the world through His Word.
“For we have the living Word of God which is full of energy, like a two-mouthed sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.” Hebrews 4:12 (TPT)
Self-awareness is important. Also, self-awareness is hard. I know who I want to be. I know who I think I am. Sometimes, though, I’m wrong about who I actually am.
I am so grateful God has given us His Word to teach us about the inner workings of our hearts. The Bible is His story about His creation, and it can energize, instruct, and transform our stories for good when we let it.
“God, I invite your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares. See if there is any path of pain I’m walking on, and lead me back to your glorious, everlasting way – the path that brings me back to you.” Psalm 139:23-24 (TPT)
As a teacher, I’ve lived by the phrase, “children don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I believe it’s true. As God’s child, I am certain that He cares, so I can trust Him when He teaches me about myself through His Word. I’m grateful for this instruction. I want to remember His Word.
Our Father, we have chosen to spend some time remembering You, Your care, Your instruction, and Your invitations. Where would we be without You? When we take time to pause and remember who You are to us, what You’ve done for us, and how You’re always inviting us into more, we can’t help but give thanks. Keep on caring, teaching, and inviting, because we don’t want to miss out on abundant life with You. Since You are always giving, we promise to remember. Amen.
