Remembering God's Provision

Happy November, ladies. We are headed into “the most wonderful time of the year.” As I’m writing, the temperature has dropped (a tiny bit). I’ve lit my Fall candle. There’s something a little crisper and more exciting about November days.

Before we move fully into the JOY that is Christmas, let's spend some time in active thanksgiving. I want to do it a little differently this year, though. Instead of beginning with a list and all the things we should be grateful for, I'd like to simply remember God.

Each day, I’ll offer you a word or phrase that describes God’s character. I’ll share a verse that supports it and offer a few brief thoughts concerning both. Then, I will leave space for you to remember God’s activity in your own life. I’m 100% sure that thankfulness will be a nearly immediate response.

Since we have three weeks until Thanksgiving, I’ve divided the characteristics into three groups. This week, we will remember God’s characteristics that demonstrate care for His children. The first is present.

Our God is with us.

"For here is the way God loved the world -- he gave his only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life." John 3:16 (TPT)

“And so the Living Expression became a man and lived among us! We gazed upon his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father overflowing with tender mercy and truth!" John 1:14 (TPT)

We live in a sin-sick and fallen (but beautiful) world. The only way anyone gets to experience true and abunant LIFE is because God chose to come here and live with us.

God sent His beautiful Son to be with us in life. Jesus lived and died to rescue and redeem life. The Spirit has come to empower and strengthen life. When we choose to let go and cooperate, the Gospel story translates into our lives as often as we need it. Every day, God rescues, redeems, empowers, and strengthens me, because He’s chosen to be present.

Think back over your day yesterday (or today if you’re doing this at night). How do you see evidence that God was there, with you, present? How do you want to remember it.

Our Father, we have chosen to spend some time remembering You, Your care, Your instruction, and Your invitations. Where would we be without You? When we take time to pause and remember who You are to us, what You’ve done for us, and how You’re always inviting us into more, we can’t help but give thanks. Keep on caring, teaching, and inviting, because we don’t want to miss out on abundant life with You. As long as You’re giving, we promise to remember. Amen.
