“Practically Divine”

Summer Book Club – Week 6

I don’t know about you, but I loved starting our reading yesterday with verses about grace. Let’s do it again.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.

Ephesians 2:4-5

So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:21

But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

1 Peter 1:13

With God’s Word about grace on your heart, read the remainder of chapter 5, pages 101 through 116.

I really loved the practical ways Becca offered us to embrace grace and live more freely: trust your passion, trust work more than inspiration, form rituals, lead with love, and follow up.

These are very practical steps, and Becca gave us all the details behind the statements. We know, though, practical isn’t always easy.

Today, use our SACRED prayer guide to reflect on your thoughts and emotions right now with these five steps fresh on your heart and mind.

S – Still. Sit in stillness, prayer, and reflection. Ask God to speak.

A – Attend. Who is God to you today? Where are you? What do you want?

C – Cruciform. How/what do you need to surrender in order to live the crucified life?

R – Revelation. What message has God’s Word been speaking to you?

E – Examine. What are you afraid of today?

D – Doxology. What can you thank God for today?

How does God want you to respond today?

God, our chapter included so much information. Remembering that we are bound by Your grace is our only hope of life and freedom. Show us how to live remembering. Help us to find the sacred in all of the practical, because Your grace makes the practical supernatural. Amen.
