Practically Divine - Week 1

Welcome to Soul Sisters Summer Book Club!

I have been looking forward to having this time with you. I believe God was very clear about Becca Stevens’ book, “Practically Divine,” being our book for the summer. I felt specifically led to this book for a couple of reasons:

1. As we’ve studied the book of Acts together, I have been reminded the first Christ-followers experienced the divine power of the Holy Spirit in the middle of their practical, everyday lives. They didn’t have mega churches, worship teams, or even seminaries to prepare dynamic pastors. They had their obedience to Christ and love for one another. It seems like that was enough. J

2. Becca Stevens is the founder of Thistle Farms in Nashville, TN, which is a healing home for women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. I am excited to get to know Becca and her ministry.

Today, as you read through the Introduction of our book, I want to encourage you to consider where you are right now. Spend some minutes reflecting on how your life is different this summer than last summer. Are you experiencing joys? Struggles? Disappointments? Happy surprises? God knows where you are, and He knows what you have going on. I believe He wants to meet with each one of us through the pages of this book.

Are you ready to live practically divine?

Read the book’s introduction. Then, briefly introduce yourself in the comments, please. Tell us one quick thing about your season in life right now. Where do you need the divine to show up in practical ways?

God, sometimes it feels so difficult to do an actual Bible study via Facebook. I want to SEE our people. I want to sit across from them and HEAR what You’re teaching them as they read and study. Can I selfishly ask for the very practical and divine gift of fellowship… across cities, states, and the internet? Would you make us FEEL very close and intimate? Do what only You can do as we study together this summer. I praise You in advance.
