Day 8

Isaiah 51:3

For the Lord comforts Zion; he comforts all her waste places and makes her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and sound of song.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all whom mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes; the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called the oaks of righteousness , the planting of the Lord that he may be glorified.

"Comfort and Joy" – by Tasha Layton

There's no need to keep your tears from falling

Sometimes what's most painful are those holidays

But Christmas shows that god cares for us deeply

The same boy in the manger holds you still today

Jesus Christ

He is heaven's love

Here at last

Forever God with us

All our hope found in a baby boy

He knew we needed comfort and joy

Comfort and joy

Comfort and joy

For the widow and the orphan all alone

For the prodigals and soldiers far from home

The peace of God reaches down to every aching soul!

Comfort and Joy!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Through the gift of your Son, we can experience comfort in our afflictions and joy in our trials! We thank you for making our "desert places like the garden." And we praise you for giving us a "beautiful headdress instead of ashes; the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit." Immanuel, we praise you for your tender loving care in the midst of our hard-pressed-circumstances. May the comfort we experience from you be the very comfort we give to the needy, lonely, and broken people all around us. Amen.
