Moses: Called, Challenged, Channged

Day 8--I WILL

Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, “The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and the Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 3:16-17

Suggested reading: Exodus 3:16-22

Have you ever watched a movie trailer that was so fore-telling that you figured watching the movie would be a waste of time? The whole storyline was played out in a 2 fast minutes. Well, in this portion of God’s conversation with Moses (still at the burning bush), God gives him a sneak peek into what will happen when he returns to Egypt. In today’s reading, catch how many “will’s” are mentioned concerning the near future events:

The elders of Israel will listen to you…

But I know the king of Egypt will not let you go…

So I will stretch out my hand…and perform wonders.

After that, he will let you go …

And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people…

When you leave you will not go empty-handed…

You will plunder the Egyptians. (v. 18-22)

Well, how about that for a spoiler alert. Should we close the book of Exodus now?

Let’s not, sisters. We have so much to learn.

Thoughts:

A couple of years ago, we did a study together on the promises of God. Some of you may remember it. We looked through God’s word and picked out his "I WILL" statements, and there were MANY!

It’s paramount in our faith-walk to know that the God, who makes a promise, also keeps a promise. As we might know in this dialogue with Moses, EVERYTHING God said to Moses in the “pre-movie-clip” happened exactly as planned.

Today would be a good day to look up some I WILL verses and remember all over again that the Promise Maker is also the Promise Keeper. Remember the I AM is not bound by human time, so he will follow through at the best time for the maximum good and the greatest glory for everyone involved.

I will get us going with three I WILL verses, but if the Lord leads, I would love to glean from others in the comments.

These three verses came to my mind:

I will strengthen you; I will also help you. I will also uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:13

We have been given the Script! Let’s live this life with full confidence that our flawless Producer has the whole world in his hands—that includes you! Today, choose to walk with the I AM and embrace all of his I WILL’s.

Dear Lord,

You know our todays and our tomorrows. Help us to live a life of faith, leaning into your promises with hope, peace, and joy. Amen.
