March to the Cross- Jesus: The Newborn King

Jesus: The Newborn King

Focus: Jesus is King of kings at birth.

Today’s verses:

Micah 5:2 But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.

Matthew 2:10-11 And when (the shepherds) saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell down and worshipped Him; and opening their treasures they presented Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on his shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Today, I am picturing the emotions of the earthly parents, Mary and Joseph, who get to meet the miracle baby, our Savior. My heart races when I think of them looking into Jesus’ eyes for the first time and what they must have said to him as they held and cared for that sweet divine bundle of love. There they were in a manger doing everything they possibly could to ensure the Newborn King was warm and safe. Then, came the planning with the Heavenly Father of what to do next….I can only imagine all the mixed emotions filled with lots of prayers and praises!

What about you? Pick a character in the story of the birth of Christ, whether it be the shepherds who saw the angels, the wise men who saw the star, or Joseph and Mary who held the newborn king. What do you think he or she was experiencing on this divine and holy night?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your divine plan of our King being born is often hard to fathom. We are grateful for the faithful, obedient, submissive response of Mary and Joseph as earthly parents and for all those surrounding our Savior as He came into the world.

We give praises to you as we honor our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Amen
