March to the Cross: Friday Wrap-Up

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

This week, our devotions showed us that Jesus was so intentional personal during His earthly ministry. We saw Him present and attentive with Nicodemus in the middle of the night. He was confrontative and also compassionate with the woman at the well during the middle of the day. He met 12 disciples right in the middle of their work and calling but called them to new and different.

In each scenario, Jesus offered love and truth. He gave away every bit of the provision they needed for life to be transformed. Can you even imagine what it was like to sit with Jesus, to talk with Jesus, to be taught by Jesus?

I know we haven't reached the cross yet, but because of the cross we get to meet with Jesus regularly. He is here, and He is still just as personal as He was with the disciples, with Nicodemus, and with the woman at the well. We have been invited to receive the intentionality of Christ's pursuit of us. We can do that by putting aside whatever it is that threatens to steal our focus so that HE can take His rightful place.

Over the weekend, let's look back over the scripture verses from the week. Notice the way Nicodemus put away His pride to learn from Jesus. The woman at the well traded in her water pot for real thirst quenching faith. The disciples left occupation to follow the One, True King. We will have to let go of some distractions too. I'm including a song for your time alone with Jesus today. Maybe our "March to the Cross" can get a little lighter today as we let go of the hindrances. I bet we won't miss them one bit.

Jesus, lighten our loads and cause us to see You more clearly. We want to follow closely, to be instructed clearly, and to be transformed. Thank you for pursuing us intentionally. We receive Your love, grace, and truth and ask you to open our eyes and hearts so that we can see the beauty of the Gospel even more clearly this Easter season.
