“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33, NIV

“For God is the God of harmony, not confusion, as is the pattern in all the churches of God’s holy believers.” 1 Corinthians 14:33, TPT

Take out your book and read the next chapter, “Sushi.”

I think one of my favorite things about this book is the way Annie has carried the theme of looking for lovely in the everyday throughout every fiber of the content. Even the titles are basic, random, and simple words that seem to be drawn from the various aspects of Annie’s regular world.

Again, I’m just floored by the timing of our reading. I don’t know if sushi is something you regularly enjoy in your life. But, every Wednesday, I try to find a reason to visit Publix, because it’s $5 sushi day. If I need anything on a Wednesday, I will gladly run to Publix for it just so that I can grab some cheap sushi. Do you have a Publix nearby? If so, today is your day. Go try some sushi!

Admittedly, this isn’t the best sushi in all the world. It’s good enough, though. I will grab some today and notice the order of each roll. Then, I’ll find something in my home to do… one thing that will set my mind at ease. Maybe I’ll clean a bathroom, fold a load of laundry, or unload the dishwasher. Or, I’ll do something I’ve been putting off like clean out drawers or the whole closet. I’m not sure. I love the idea of doing one small chore and calling it lovely, though.

When life feels out of control, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed to the point of paralysis. Nope! That’s not for us. We are going to eat our sushi, notice the simple order of each roll, and engage in one orderly activity. Then, we’ll take a deep breath and enjoy the lovely, because our God isn’t a God of disorder. He is THE God of peace.

God, flood our lives with peace today. Give our minds order in small ways. Help us to find the fullness of rest in You. Amen.
