Journey of Prayer--Day 38

Wednesday, February, 24

Therefore since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith… Hebrews 12:1-2.

I have to say, this page was one of my most favorite days to write in this Journey of Prayer devotional. I realize many of you are holding the book in your hands, but also, there are some who do not have it. I decided to copy and paste the list of some of our biblical brothers and sisters who have gone before us in this journey of prayer. Read it slowly and humbly, realizing that YOU too are part of this holy history when you choose to pray.

Abraham prayed to God…

Isaac prayed to the Lord…

Moses cried out to the Lord…

Then Joshua spoke to the Lord…

Then Samson called to the Lord…

(Hannah), greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly…

Samuel said… “I will pray to the Lord for you” …

And David spoke the words of this song to the Lord…

Elijah the prophet came near and (prayed)…

Then Elisha prayed…

Hezekiah prayed before the Lord…

Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the Lord…

Now while Ezra was praying and making confession…

(Nehemiah) was fasting and praying before the God of heaven…

(Esther said), “Go, assemble all the Jews… and fast for me” …

Daniel prayed to the Lord his God …

Mary (prayed), “My soul glorifies the Lord” …

Simeon took Him in his arms and blessed God …

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray…

Jesus said, “This, then, is how you should pray” …

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed…

The church was earnestly praying to God…

(Paul said), “For this reason I bow my knew before the Father…”.

Prayer has been going on since the beginning of creation, and now, it’s our turn. Our voices are the ones that lift the Lord’s name in praise, and our voices are the ones that He longs to hear and answer. Take a moment to think of the men and women who worshiped the Lord and who prayed their own requests long before you. Marvel at how He has worked through them in the past, and then humbly join them in the present.

Dear Lord,

Help me to follow suit in the line of men and women of the past who have called on Your name. The voices of the present are the current vehicles of Your power. Keep me persevering in prayer, faithful to this high calling. Amen.
