Christmas Devotional

Why did Jesus Come?

Jesus came to give us freedom.

Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden.” Luke 4:18

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32

Bring my soul out of prison, so that I may give thanks to your name; the righteous will surround me, for you will deal bountifully with me. Psalm 142:7

Knowing this, that your old self was crucified with him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin…Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Jesus Christ. Romans 6:6-7,11

My Child,

I came to give you freedom. Do not let the worries of this world entangle you. I am bigger than your problems, and I am stronger than your addictions. Give them to me, so that I can then fill your empty hands and heart with abundant, yet intangible riches: forgiveness, redemption, and the power of my Spirit. Immanuel

Come Home for Christmas - Matthew West

Dear Lord,

Your freedom is true freedom! A "free spirit" that is not ruled by your free Spirit only leads to bondage or a dead end road. Please Lord Jesus, indwell us so that we can experience your life to the fullest. Thank you for giving us this opportunity--freedom in you--may we die to self so we can truly live! Amen.
