ACTS of the Apostles, Part 2

Learning How to be Daring and Dynamic

Read Acts 27:1-12

Focus Verse: Acts 27:1

“When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment.”

Talk about not being able to put a book down! Once I started reading Chapter 27, I didn’t want to stop. Luke tells the story of Paul’s extremely eventful voyage to Rome in grand detail and has his readers holding on to the edge of their seat. It is filled with adventure and intrigue. And through it all we learn of a God who fulfills promises and the importance of trusting in Him.

It all started with God’s calling for Paul’s ministry in Rome; but little did Paul know how he would get to Rome and everything that would happen to him before he got there. Paul went through illegal arrest, Roman and Jewish trials, confinement and even shipwreck. He planned to preach the gospel in Rome and then go to Spain, but it was not a part of his plan to travel as a prisoner. Through it all Paul trusted God’s promise that he would witness in Rome (Acts 23:11), and the Lord saw him through it.

Do you cling to God’s promises? Do you keep weathering the storm to “get to the place” God is calling even when it’s not the path you would have chosen?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all of your promises and gift of grace. When we are on a mission and your plans take longer than we would imagine let us recall your promises. In divine and eventful moments let our faith make a difference for us and for others in the storms of life. Keep us strong…Let us turn to you always and never turn away! You are such a Good, Good Father.

In your Son’s name we pray. Amen
