A Way to Pray

Focus: Adoration

Matthew 6: 9-13

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

The first part of our daily prayer focus is Adoration. During this time of prayer, you are worshipping our Lord and praising him for being the awesome God that he is. A simple definition of adoration is deep love and respect. We show others how much we adore them; so why wouldn't we do the same for our Lord and Savior?

Jesus taught his followers to start their prayers with adoration (Matthew 6:9). We often skip over this part in prayer and go straight to our needs or wants. We should take time to focus on God’s character and attributes as we honor him. For example, “Lord God in Heaven, You are worthy to be praised. You are the Creator and Sustainer of Life and from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”

We are to approach God in reverence and make it very clear that he is loved and adored like no other! Remember, you are not asking for anything right now. This time in prayer is not about you. It’s all about our Heavenly Father. Adoration gets to the heart of who we are. To truly worship God, we must be willing to humble ourselves before Him and surrender every part of our lives to His control.

Use your heart, mind and voice. Let God know how much you truly adore Him. Don’t hold back. Let Him know how great he is!!

Dear Heavenly Father, I love you and adore you! You are sovereign and mighty. There is no other God, no other Savior, never has been, never will be. I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things. All glory and honor belong to you forever and ever! You are the Eternal King, the unseen One who never dies. Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
