ACTS: A Way to Live

The Gospel of Luke—Lent 2022

Read Luke 15

Focus Verse—Luke 15:10

“In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

ACTion for Reflection: Pursue One

We should want more than anything to have a heart like God’s! Rarely do we imagine what God goes through to bring one lost soul to Himself. When He reaches out to those who don’t know Him, He adjusts the circumstances around them, maneuvers Believers into their lives, and even designs spectacular sunsets to capture their attention. In the same way, Jesus went to where lost people were. He ate with those that the Pharisees despised as “sinners” and revealed His love to them. The three parables in Luke 15 show God’s heart. He goes after the individual who wanders off, is in danger or is just lost. The first two parables show that God is persistent. The shepherd and the woman didn’t give up until they found what they were looking for. Like the father of the prodigal son, God is there with open arms to receive all sinners when they repent of their sin. Jesus said that there is rejoicing in heaven when even one sinner repents. If God had a critical heart, an impatient heart, or an unforgiving heart, there would be no rejoicing. We should pray to have a heart like God’s toward those we meet who need salvation, rescue and restoration. We should ask Him to make us spiritually sensitive to their needs. Let’s ask Him to give us the right words to say so that others will feel God’s love through us and come to Him.

ACTion to Live Out: Share God’s love, grace, and mercy

An idea for today is to share God’s Word with someone who may not know Jesus. You can share encouraging words of God’s unconditional love and mercy. If the person wants to know more, give them a Bible or share a devotional that has helped you through a tough time.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for teaching us how to live! After we daily reflect on your life-giving words, help us to then, through your Spirit, get up and ACT. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take your good news to the world. What an honor it is to be your image bearer. Amen.
