ACTS: A Way to Live

The Gospel of Luke—Lent 2022

Read Luke 8:40-56

Focus Verses—Luke 8: 41, 43

Then a man name Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him…(also), a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years…

ACTion for Reflection: Loving Without Partiality

Isn’t it wonderful that God never discriminates? The love, salvation, and healing that He gives doesn’t hinge on our status in life or what we have accomplished. A ruler begged Jesus to come to his house and heal his daughter. In the eyes of the world, this person was important enough to gain the Teacher’s attention. Yes, Jesus agreed to go to his house. But when a sickly woman touched Jesus’ robe, Jesus immediately stopped and paid attention to her. She didn’t have any wealth or prestige. All the doctors had given up on her. But to Jesus, this desperate woman’s need was just as critical as the ruler’s need. Jesus healed the woman the second she touched His robe. Jesus continued on to the ruler’s house and literally raised his child from the dead. We should never feel that our situation is not important to God. He loves each of us the same, and He will meet our need with the same love, healing power and might.

ACTion to Live Out: Spread God’s Love

An ACTion idea is to reach out to someone today who is sick, lost in in their faith, spiritually down, or experiencing grief of some sort. You could call, text or write them, or you could go see them in person and share encouraging words with them. Let them know they are loved by God, you and your church family. Ask God to help you build up their faith to believe that God is with them and will carry them through.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for teaching us how to live! After we daily reflect on your life-giving words, help us to then, through your Spirit, get up and ACT. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take your good news to the world. What an honor it is to be your image bearer. Amen.
