A Journey with Jesus during Lent
Day 11
Matthew 26:44-50
So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!” While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.
Today is about betrayal and true love. Have you ever had anyone turn against you or do something that harmed you, or even worse, do something that could cause you to die? If not, just imagine how devastating that would be. Then, on top of that, would you still be able to love them and call them “friend”? That’s exactly what Jesus did with the biggest betrayal of all times. He knew Judas was the betrayer, the one that would ultimately point him out to the army of people who would arrest Him and take Him on the grueling journey which led to the cross.
Ladies, even as we continue to sin and turn away from Jesus at times when He needs us, He calls us FRIEND and loves us unconditionally. I am in tears at this type of love. It compels me to full-heartedly surrender at the foot of the cross and repent for all my harmful ways. I never want to take God’s love for granted. I want to give thanks for His acceptance of a sinner like me…and for calling me His child, daughter and FRIEND.
Can you picture God loving you so much that He calls you FRIEND? How can you worship and praise Him today with your whole heart, body, mind and spirit?
Dear Jesus,
We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.
Week 3 Act of Kindness
“For I was a stranger and you invited me in” Matthew 25:35c
This week, pray about extending an invitation (e.g., for church, dinner, coffee) to someone outside of your family, friends, or “circle”.
