A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Day 10

Matthew 26:42-44

He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

Today, in our verses I want to focus on Jesus. He went away three times and prayed. Do you think He thought God didn’t hear him? Do you think He doubted God would answer his prayer so if he prayed it enough, God would then know how important it is? No and No. Because we see Jesus’ full humanity in this garden, it is hard to imagine him not having these thoughts. But perhaps this is how we think, isn’t it? What I see here is Jesus modeling for us the importance and persistence of prayer. We will read just a couple verses later that Jesus was at rest with what was coming down the pike. After surrendering in prayer three times, He knew and with peace in His heart, He got up and completed obeyed.

Ladies, If we have prayed once or a thousand times for something, when we trust God to answer it according to His will, the peace that passes all understanding is our gift from Him and we can believe that it is in His hands!(Philippians 4:5-7)

Also, don’t beat yourself up if you only prayed once instead of every hour over something. Your very first prayer lifted up, God heard! He heard it and put into motion a way of answering it according to His will (1 Peter 3:12). The way He answers it is up to Him, let’s trust that “Father Knows Best.”

A beautiful thing is that when we are engaged in precious prayer, we are most likely to hear Him and feel His presence. Until we are face to face with Him in heaven, engaging in prayer is the closest we can be to our Lord because of the Holy Spirit which knows no bounds. We can hear His sweets words, “I hear you child, I am working on it, trust Me. My peace I leave with you. Now go and let My light shine through you.”

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 2 Act of Kindness

“For I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink” Matthew 25:35b

This week, donate water to a homeless shelter or make a donation to a “clean water mission” organization (i.e., Splash.org, Water.org)
