A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Day 39

Matthew 28:16-17

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

The disciples went to Galilee as they had been instructed. Galilee was considered home to the disciples as it was where they had spent so much time together doing good in the name of Jesus. Just imagine that journey – they knew they were going to meet the Risen Savior. Talk about a homecoming!

Like the women who first saw Jesus when they were running from the tomb, the disciples, upon seeing the glorified body of Jesus, worshiped Him. I’m sure they too hit their knees and bowed giving Him honor and praise. But this scripture says something about the encounter not mentioned when the women saw Jesus. It's just two words, "some doubted." Now we know that Thomas is famous for his doubting when he heard about Jesus’s resurrection. John 20:25 tells us that he refused to believe “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” But Matthew says “some doubted” which implies more than one. Was it another disciple? Was it another person who had wandered up the mountain who had heard the good news and thought it was too good to be true?

We’ve all been there, havaen’t we? Take a moment today and think about a time or times that you’ve doubted Jesus. What scripture do you cling to trust in His promises?

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 7 Act of Kindness

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

This week, with the Holy Spirit’s prompting, do a random act of kindness for someone.
