A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Day 33

Matthew 27:62-66

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Today the chief priests and even Pilate himself are feeling threatened by the disciples (who had disappeared from the scene earlier). Regardless of all the extra measures they put in place to make Jesus’ tomb secure, you and I know that no one should underestimate the power of Jesus. When God says the tomb will be empty, the tomb will be empty. Our God keeps His promises. From the very beginning in Genesis, there are more than 300 prophecies about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. And, have no fear……HE FULLFILLED EVERY ONE OF THEM!!

So, think about that today. Are you trying to close a door that God wants open? Are you being fearful over a situation that appears to be something impossible? Or are you trusting in our God who always has a plan for you and will never leave you nor forsake you? Turn to His word today and claim His promises. He is faithful. He is powerful. He is a promise keeper. If He said something, you can trust it will be done.

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 6 Act of Kindness

“I was in prison and you came to visit me” Matthew 25:36c

This week, help someone who can’t help themselves or has gotten themselves into trouble; or volunteer for a prison ministry organization (e.g., Kairos or Crossroads).
