A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Matthew 27:35-36

When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.

Well, ladies, this has been a tough week! We have inched our way through the crucifixion; and, I don't know about you, but I have not loved it. Honestly, I didn't realize it would be so difficult when I first looked at the section of scripture I'd be writing through.

We end today with Jesus crucified and the soldiers casting lots, sitting, and just watching Him die.

The verse says, "when they had crucified him...." It's important to remember, though, that Jesus was completely in control.

"...no one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself." John 10:18

I haven't loved writing about this week, because the story is harsh, and ugly, and cruel. One commentary writer said the Romans did not invent crucifixion, but they perfected it as the most extreme and painful form of death. I couldn't even read the details he shared to make his point.

He willingly gave up His life in the harshest, ugliest, and most cruel way, because of His beautiful and all consuming love for us.

For you.

For me.

For all of us represented by Barabbas, deserving of death but set free because of love.

After a hard week of study, enjoy this clip. I hope it is as meaningful for you as it has been for me.

Keep journeying, girls. We will see you again on Monday.

Dear Jesus,

We praise You and give thanks that we get to journey with You through this season of Lent. Draw us closer to Your heart, that we might know You better. After we daily reflect on Your selflessness and life-giving Word, give us wisdom to be Your hands and feet in the world just as You intend. Give us hearts of compassion, hands of generosity, and feet that take Your good news to the world. We love You and are honored to serve you Lord, our sweet Savior. Amen.

Week 4 Act of Kindness

“I needed clothes and you clothed me” Matthew 25:36a

This week, donate clothing to a thrift store or homeless shelter.
