A Journey with Jesus during Lent

Today and tomorrow are introduction days to our next devotional, A Journey with Jesus during Lent, which officially kicks off on Wednesday. If you typically don’t participate in Lent activities that’s okay; this devotion is still for you! It doesn’t matter what your denomination or religious background is, as long as you believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose from the dead, you’ll want to participate in this devotion scheduled for February 22—April 7.

If you aren’t familiar with Lent, it is a season where we spend dedicated time calling upon God’s mercy and forgiveness to prepare ourselves for the gift of our redemption and salvation, which we celebrate on Easter Sunday. Here is a little background information that Anne shared with us last year when we prepared our hearts and minds for the Lent devotion in 2022...

Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, is always the 46 days that lead up to Easter Sunday and is a 40-day season (not counting Sundays). It is marked by prayer, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. Lent asks believers to set aside a time each year for similar fasting, marking an intentional season to focus on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection. It is a time to open the doors of our hearts a little wider and understand our Lord a little deeper, so that when Good Friday and eventually Easter Sunday comes, it is not just another day at church but a wonderful invitation to taste the overflowing grace that our Lord God has to offer.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We are honored to spend this time of Lent in reflection and renewed faith as we focus on the life, death, and resurrection of your son, Jesus Christ. Create a clean heart in each of us, O God: a humble heart, a meek heart, a peaceful heart, a forgiving heart, a giving heart, a devout heart to you, which does not repay evil for evil, but overcomes evil with good. We pray for a heart which loves you above all things, thinks always about you, speaks about you and gives you thanks. We are here to worship and serve just as you call. In the name of your son Jesus, we pray. Amen
