Forty Days of Proclamation : Abundantly

Amanda Stephens

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” Ephesians 3:20

Abundantly

Before we even rang in 2020 my husband and I knew it would be a critical year of provision for our family of six. He was beginning a new career, and this was going to have to be the year to see it take off. While my career in education was a steady source of income, with benefits for our whole family, it was no longer where my heart desired to be. However, I was committed to staying in the classroom while he grew his real estate clientele. What we did not know, could not know, was what 2020 would bring.

As we settled into our time at home under quarantine, I reflected on my word and verse for the year. It was only the third month into this new year, so it was still fairly fresh on my mind. My perspective was now different. We were deeply concerned about my husband’s new career in real estate, and I felt more stuck than ever in my job as a teacher. It was now our security.

However, through this time, I never wavered on my word, or my verse. Whatever provisions God was going to give us would be considered exceedingly abundant. It is actually really difficult for me to put into words the way God worked during this time. It was like this word; this verse was a blanket of calm in a world of chaos. I sat in comfort knowing, KNOWING that we would be taken care of in the way that God saw fit for our family. Through His grace, my husband was getting a steady stream of clients-even in the midst of a pandemic. At first, it was consistent work. But, you all, that was just the beginning. Suddenly, his closings on the calendar, were coming in full force, with more clients coming. And then, the biggest “exceedingly abundantly” provision came calling. The company I had been dreaming of working for called and offered me the job of my dreams. I am not exaggerating. More provision by way of income, time, less stress, and joy.

In a year of such chaos, such turmoil, such uncertainty, God’s exceeding abundance did not waiver. For all of the things I could remember 2020 for, it will always be how through faith, constant prayer, and His grace, God showered us- exceedingly abundantly.
