Forty Days of Proclamation: PROMISE

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

My life has been full of the fulfilled promises of God. Even when I was far from Him he never left me. Deuteronomy 31:8 tells us, "The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." He watched over me and protected me because He had plans for me. I couldn't even begin to imagine what He had in store for me as I left my parent's home and set out on my own.

I was raised in the church and knew of, and believed, God was the Creator of the world and me. It was several years, and mistakes, later that I realized I needed to accept Jesus into my heart and have a personal relationship with Him and His promised Holy Spirit! He came to earth to show us the ways of the Father and to be the Savior of us all. Now decades later I have seen the work He started in me continue to lead me in a faith journey that has drawn me closer to Him every step of the way. I often find it helpful to make a list of all the promises He has already fulfilled in my life, because seeing it in black and white makes me realize just how much He has already done for me. I challenge you to make one of those lists in your journal today, and then spend some time thanking Him for all the fulfilled promises and blessings He has bestowed on you.

And...just as I hold onto His promises for me and my pastor husband - Yes, God called me to be a pastor's wife! I never saw that one coming! I continue to hold onto His promises for those I love and am close to. I have two adult sons who are walking the same sort of path I walked when I was far away from God; and Soul Sisters, I believe and hold close to my heart the promise that God will watch over them and protect them too. I often remind Him of that very promise in my prayer time.

As I look to these last couple months of 2020, I know His promises still hold true today, just as they have in the past. From the Old Testament to the New, God promised, and still promises to be with His people and those He calls into service for Him. We face uncertain times and none of us truly know what the future holds, but I am sure of one thing - God is still on the throne and I know who wins in the end.

He has promised to: 1) forgive us, 2) redeem us, 3) give us strength, 4) guide us, and 5) be with us. Let us look to His promises as we continue to hold tightly to Him, whatever we may be facing.

Dear Father in heaven, Jesus the Son, and Holy Spirit within us,

Be with us as we ponder the promises of Your Word today. Help us to see the answers You have already given us, as we hold onto the promise of answers yet to come in Your time. We know You can do all things. Help us to see Your work in us and those we love in the days ahead. Give us the strength to overcome the lies of the enemy and the evils of this world. Help us to look to You, the Author and Perfector of our faith and hope. Walk with us, guide us, and forgive us when we fall short. Help us to claim Your promises over our lives and the lives of those we love. When we forget, remind us You are with us always, just as You promised. We thank you for everything and ask all this in Your precious Son's name, today and every day. Amen and Amen
