Forty Days of Promises -- Overcome

God promises to overcome.

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever! Psalm 30:12

All promises are fulfilled in Christ.

Please read John 16:16-33.

Oh, how I love this promise! I am so thankful we get to live with this promise. And, I pray that we end this study with hearts of gratitude because this promise is our ultimate hope.

Jesus was honest about this world. He told us that we'd face troubles. As I was reading John 16 from the Message version, my heart could fell the heaviness of His teaching. In this world,

You'll face viruses that can't be explained.

You'll wrestle with sin and temptation that cause death and destruction.

You'll love and care for people that hurt you because of the decisions they made that hurt themselves.

You'll wish for things that will never be and experience things you never wished for.

This is a tough place to live, and none of us are getting out alive. BUT, Jesus said to take heart. He has overcome!

Ladies, I don't know what you're facing today. What I know is that (in HIM) you will overcome. Maybe you'll overcome today. Maybe it will be next week, next month, or next year. It could be that you'll overcome as you step into eternity. But, we will overcome. That is His promise which can not fail.

I want to say more. But, I'm going to be quiet and leave you with a song. The words of this song mean so much to me. I can't listen without tears. Today, I feel it's perfect. The music and the words offer the perfect backdrop for me to think through all of the things that Jesus and I have overcome together and give Him thanks. It also gives me space to weep over the things that are still a burden with hope that He's overcome it.

As you listen, I'm praying that your heart will be filled with WORSHIP for our God who has promised us many things and fulfilled every one of them in Christ.

God, thank you for King Jesus. Thank you that He overcame this world and all that is in it. And, thank you that we overcome in Him. In my own life, there are things I wouldn't know about YOU if I had not experienced the burdens. While it seems crazy, I want to thank you for those difficulties too. In this world I have faced troubles, and I have been able to take heart knowing that You overcame all of it. What a joy! What a blessing! Today, since I know that all of the hurt, the shame, the guilt was buried in death but rose to life, help me to fully live and encourage those around me to do the same. Amen.
