God promises to reward our faith-walk
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners,nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

The way we express our faith as we go about our busy day is our “faith-walk.” David described in no uncertain terms what the believer’s faith-walk should look like. He said God would bless us IF we joyfully love God’s truth. Satan has a habit of whispering lies in our ears. When we cave to his advice or opinion, we end up seeing things from the perspective of a sinner and we lose sight of God’s perspective. David says that when this happens, we risk becoming “scoffers”—self-righteous people who judge, ridicule or put down others.
As we live each day, David says we should “delight...in the law of the Lord.” As women of faith, that “law” includes the incredible Gospel of Jesus Christ. How do we delight in it? By recalling “day and night” what God has done for us--our salvation, the new life we have in Christ and our incredible relationship with Him! How will God bless us? By planting us like a tree by streams of living water flowing directly from Him, our roots deep in His Truth. We will yield fruit and be a blessing to those around us. Our leaves will not wither—no matter how many seasons of difficulty we go through. And everything we do will prosper. This is God’s promise to us if we faithfully live our “faith-walk.” This is the promise of abundance in Him.
We all know Jesus’ parable of the talents. Besides teaching obedience, it has something to say about being in fellowship with God versus falling out of fellowship with Him. The two obedient servants, who invested their money and earned interest, were faithful to their master. When we are in continual fellowship with our Lord, we can effectively invest the spiritual gifts and truths that He has given us into the people around us and be a blessing to them. The servant who buried his talent did so because he was “afraid.” He accused his master of being a “hard man, harvesting where he had not sown...” This servant’s relationship with his master had been severed. When we fall out of fellowship with our Master, our Lord, we may begin to believe that He no longer loves us or cares about what we are going through. Like this unfaithful servant, our own attitude starts to taint our thinking and behavior.
Our ability to use these gifts for His Kingdom is determined by on our relationship with God. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing.” He was not telling us to be on our knees 24/7, but to be in 24/7 fellowship with the Lord. Our spirit is to be in continual communion with God all day long, no matter what we are doing. This way we will never be uprooted from God’s streams of living water that feed our spirit. When Christ is at the center of our being, God promises to bless our faith-walk and make us prosper.

Thank you, Lord, for planting us deep in Your Word and refreshing us every day with the living water of your Holy Spirit. We delight in Your Truth! Thank you for promising to bless our faith-walk. Let us know when we are being distracted by the ways of this world and falling out of fellowship with You. Forgive us and restore us so that we can commune with you 24/7.
