Forty Days of Prayer: Day 3

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, "Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against the vast army. O Lord, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you." 2 Chronicles 14:11

The verse above is part of an amazing Bible story; it's actually the main point in this true account of a mighty battle. Here are the two verses before it:

Now Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them (Judah and King Asa) with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and he came to Mareshah. So Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 2 Chronicles 14:9-10. (Now, reread today's header verse.)

Asa had three options concerning this battle: he could fight in-and-of his own strength, he could run away in fear of the enemy, or he could run forward in his faith in God. Judah was outnumbered 2 to 1... IF you were only counting men. But Asa, was also counting his God.

In our book, Kit Cummings says this, "Is your God bigger than your problem or does your problem seem bigger than your God? Certainly it is not. The battle lines have been drawn and the enemy is shouting across the lines at you. Your God is just waiting to rush into the fray on your behalf. Call on God and stand up to the 'enemies' in your life."

Soul Sisters, let's call on His name today. Even if it's just you and Him alone, you still have the advantage. A practical way I have learned to reinforce my faith when I feel my problem growing, and my God "shrinking" is this: I begin to call out His name rather than focus on my precarious situation. God never changes, but my perspective often needs a revamping with truth.

I thought we could do some "Name-calling" together today. I am going to list Names or characteristics of God in alphabetical order. Join with me in calling on His name like Asa did when the battle line was set. When doing this, don't just chant God's name, BELIEVE HIS NAME IN YOUR LIFE SITUATION.

Ready for battle? Let's fight ladies, being fully convinced Who is running with us:

Almighty God, Bondage Breaker, Comforter, Deliverer, Encourager, Friend, Giving One, Holy One, Inside of us, Joy Giver, King of kings, Lord of lords, Mountain Mover, Name above all names, Omnipotent, Promise Keeper, Quieter of the heart, Ransomed on our behalf, Strong Tower, Truth alone, Understands completely, Valiant Warrior, Winsome, eXcellent in every way, Yearns for relationship, Zealous for you.

Never go into your overwhelming circumstances alone. Remember, He's waiting for your battle cry and He's got your back. If you would, in the comments below, shout out a name of God that you are claiming today in the midst of your battle. Your words of truth in His name carry power. Someone may need some encouragement and you may be the one to give it to them.

Dear Lord,

"In God we have boasted continually and we will give thanks to your name forever" (Psalm 44:8). When we send praise up to You, You send Your power down to us. You are the foundation underneath our feet; You go before us and You go behind us; You live in us; Your hand is on us. We believe in YOU. Amen.
