Songs for our Savior: O Come All Ye Faithful

Isaiah 60:1-3

Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth And deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Lyrics

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!

O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him Born the King of Angels:

O come, let us adore Him, (3×)

Christ the Lord.

God of God, light of light,

Lo, he abhors not the Virgin's womb;

True God, begotten, not created:

O come, let us adore Him, (3×)

Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,

Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!

Glory to God, glory in the highest:

O come, let us adore Him, (3×)

Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning;

Jesus, to thee be glory given!

Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!

O come, let us adore Him, (3×)

Christ the Lord.

“O Come, All Ye Faithful" is an adaptation of a Latin hymn Adeste Fidelis. The exact origins of the original hymn are not known, but it was most likely composed by John Francis Wade in the middle of the eighteenth century…The encouragement to “come, all ye faithful, . . . to Bethlehem” situates the singer both among the shepherds who rushed to see Christ and in the great continuation of the “faithful” that have traveled to Bethlehem in a spiritual nature for over 2,000 years…It signifies and celebrates our coming together in worship to adore the loving blessing of Jesus, as he sacrificed himself for our salvation. Heavenly and Faithful Father,

Let us be joyful and triumphant over the birth of the one, true Savior. To Thee be the glory given as we celebrate this December. During the hustle and bustle of this season, please guide each one of us to You and Your word . Give us room to breath in the real meaning of Christmas. Once again we come to You in thanks for a gift that is sometimes too large for our human minds to process. I pray we act accordingly- with thanksgiving and grateful hearts for what You offer. Amen
