We GO: Wherever He Leads

We are each His beautiful and unique vessel called to pour out the Light and Love of Christ, therefore WE GO…

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…”

Hebrews 12:1

Sometimes I just don’t want to serve God where He has called me to serve. Yep! I said it. I want to share one struggle in particular from years ago when my husband felt God calling us to do ministry work at a local race track. He took me to the race track to show me that “the harvest was plentiful, but the workers were few” (Luke 10:2). All I saw was a lot of people I had absolutely nothing in common with and, quite honestly, people I didn’t want to get to know. I was not only resistant, I was resentful!

BUT GOD… lovingly and gently reminded me that I was to “sit” under my husband’s authority and be his helpmate. More importantly, God reminded me that my life’s purpose was to love Him & love people. Not just the people that are easy to love or the people I have things in common with, but the people He sends me to.

We named our new endeavor “Perseverance Racing Ministry” based on Hebrews 12:1 and got to work. Tim raced a car and showed the love of Jesus on & off the track in his relationships with other drivers & track officials. I assisted the track officials in any way they needed me. (“Lisa, can you say the opening prayer? Sure!” “Lisa, can you sing the national anthem? Sure!” “Lisa, can you be the Hooter’s Girl and hand out the trophy? Wait… WHAT?!?”) My willingness to serve gave me access to the drivers in the “staging area” and I was allowed to pray over them right before they raced.

I cannot begin to tell you just how amazing this was! Over the course of time, one driver went from gruffly declining my offer to pray with him week after week to seeking me out in the pits way before his race to get a special pre-race prayer! That same driver went on to win the championship for his class and thank me in his speech at the awards banquet.

Only God! He changed my heart & I learned how to love people for Him and through Him. I also learned to boldly embrace my calling. After many years of serving, God closed the door of the PRMinistry shop, but my heart was forever changed. I learned to see & love people the way God does and I have taken that love with me wherever He has called me since.

Dear Abba Father, thank You for loving me & saving me. Thank You for allowing me to work with You to share Your love. Thank You for Your patience with me when I resist Your plans for my life. Forgive me for my “sin which clings so closely.” Help me to love You more and to love people more for You and through You. Help me to “run the race set before me” for Your glory! You are a good Daddy and I trust You!
