"Because He Said So! Discovering who the I AM says I am"

The I AM says I am complete!

“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.” (Colossians 2: 9-10a)

As a very young girl I can remember going to my Aunt’s house and watching her put together puzzles on the coffee table in her den. The puzzle box was always sitting nearby displaying what the current project would look like when it was all put together. The images were all beautiful and ranged from United States landmarks to exotic wildlife scenes. I can remember being fascinated by how all of the pieces would fit together to make such a beautiful picture. My aunt would work on her puzzle for hours using skills like a detective to see which piece went where. The day she came home with a puzzle of Elvis all the kids decided to help. My aunt seemed a little nervous with us kids wanting to participate, and her directions were very clear. We had to sit still, on the floor, and only pick up one puzzle piece at a time. We understood, but after a while we found the restrictions too much and quickly fled for the trampoline. Wouldn’t you know it, when the puzzle was nearing completion there was a piece missing. She called us in to see if any of us had it stuck in our pocket, shoe, etc. The missing piece was nowhere to be found. We searched and searched, but we could not find it. Finally, someone dug deep in the couch – and there it was – the piece that would complete the puzzle was found, placed where it belonged, and Elvis was complete.

Our lives are much like that of a puzzle with missing pieces. We often waste time looking to find a way to put together all the pieces of our life in a way that the image looks as pretty as an image on a puzzle box. We are searching for the missing pieces to make us whole. We are looking high and low, and near and far for the piece that will make our image complete. Ladies, life can be difficult. Sometimes it is really hard to see how all the pieces fit together. “The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:24-25). He is the missing piece! Just like in the story where my family was looking for the piece to complete the Elvis puzzle, we must dig deep for Him. When we take the time to search for Him through His word and through prayer, we begin to see how all the pieces of our life fit together.

Sisters, rejoice! We all have a God shaped hole in our soul that only He can fill! It is He who completes us. And in the end, if we are following Him and seeking His will, our life will be an image of His beautiful work in us. So today, when you feel like you are inadequate, misplaced, incomplete, and imperfect look in the mirror at the masterpiece that He created you to be and declare, “I am complete, because He said so!”

Dear Lord,

I praise You today for all that You are; You are the Creator of the Universe, the King of kings and Lord of lords. You are the I AM! I know that You created me on purpose for a purpose. I am who You say I am. The enemy wants to hold me back from living out the calling You have placed on my life. Lord, saturate my mind with the truth of Your Word so that I may remember that my identity is found in You and only You. Remind me throughout the day, when the world comes tumbling in, that You are in control. Reveal Your will in my life as I only want to please You. No matter how difficult my day becomes I will remember that I can do all things through You (Phil 4:13). In Jesus' name. Amen
