Picture Scripture: Week 7- Bride (His pursuit)

Picture: Bride (His pursuit)

Scripture: Jeremiah 31:3; Hosea 2:14-15; Isaiah 41:9-13; Psalm 37:23-24

When my husband and I were dating he sent me flowers once a week, wrote (and even faxed) me sweet notes, called often, and when we were together he held my hand tightly. He made me feel special, secure and loved. He knew how to get to my heart. And, just like a man is in pursuit of his bride, God chases each one of us with His love!

In 1964 the Beatles had a hit song, I Want to Hold Your Hand. Today, God is singing to us through scripture reminding us that He longs to “hold our hand” and reassure us of His commitment to us day in and day out. God wants us to be aware of His presence and His pursuit for us. There are many verses in the Bible that reference God taking hold of our hand. (Side note- These verses have recently been heavy on my heart, especially in reference to the right hand.) In Isaiah 41:10 God says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you with my righteous right hand.” Then in verse 13 He continues to comfort us and reassure us of his strength, support and love by saying, “For I, the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear, I will help you.’”

Ladies, God is pursuing your heart right now. He’s knocking on the door of your heart that you might simply let him in. More than he wants you to do something for him today, he simply wants you to know he is with you and for you. He wants to hold your hand.

Today, reflect on God pursuing you. Are you aware of His daily loving presence?

Dear Heavenly Father,

I know I don’t tell you ever day how much I appreciate your extravagant and passionate love for me, but I can’t imagine life without it. I am grateful that you “have loved me with an everlasting love; and have drawn me with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3). Even when I don’t feel worthy of your deep love, I need to remember that there is no sin too great, no distance I could run, that would discourage you from loving me and upholding me by your righteous right hand. From the moment I was born you have been pursuing my heart. I am grateful for that and want our relationship to continue to grow deeper and deeper. Today, Lord, let me feel your presence and know that you are holding my hand.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
