Soul Sisters, Freedom Study

Happy (almost) Fourth of July! All across our nation, people will celebrate freedom on Wednesday. Collectively, we will stop and remember the brave men that came to America for liberty and didn’t stop until America was established a country where all its inhabitants would enjoy freedom. Aren’t you grateful? Can you imagine living any other way?

This summer, Soul Sisters have been on our own freedom journey. On Monday, May 16th, we picked up the book, You are Free by Rebekah Lyons, and began looking at one chapter each week focused on a few of our freedoms in Christ. The foundational idea of Rebekah’s book is that, as believers, we are already free. We should live in that knowledge.

As we’ve traveled through the first through chapters, we’ve been amazed at how individually and personally God has worked in the lives of each woman. One member of the leadership team posts the details of our study on the Facebook page each morning. Then, sisters share what God has revealed they’ve read. For many of us, it’s been life changing.

John 8:36 says, “Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” Galatians 5:1 states, “It is for freedom that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

This is what we’ve been seeking for the past 6 weeks! Through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection, God made us FREE. That work is finished and complete. However, our acceptance and ability to live daily in His freedom is ongoing.

We would love for you to join us for Bible study this summer. We are in week 7 of 15. It’s not too late. All you need is a copy of Rebekah Lyons’ book, You are Free, which can be ordered through Amazon. Then, you’ll want to join us on our Facebook page. Each day, we will do five things:

  • Read from the Bible -- You will be led to a scripture passage that will provide a more in depth study of the week’s topic.

  • Remember -- We will look back over the chapter and Rebekah Lyon’s words to focus one one statement for the day.

  • Reflect -- A member of our Leadership Team will offer commentary, encouragement, and support to help apply the teachings of that day’s reading.

  • Rest -- Together, we will find ways to demonstrate our belief in the finished work of the cross by participating in an act of rest.

  • Pray -- Each post will end with a prayer over all of us as sisters in Christ.

I pray you’ll consider joining us. It has become more and more evident that freedom is the key to living the life God intended for us. And, we’re on a journey to living the fullness of that life.

We weren’t made to keep up. We were made to be free. To be who we already are.

Rebekah Lyons
