Forty Days of Proclamation: Trust

Title: Forty Days of Proclamation: TRUST

Kathi Smith

Psalm 37 Verse 3: Trust in the Lord and do good: dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

Trust was my word for this year; 2020. How often have I used this phrase and reminded myself to “Trust in the Lord.” I am a believer; have been my whole life. That should be an easy thing to do, “Trust in the Lord.” Certainly, very easy when everything is going my way! Well not much trust needed in those times; right? Now, all we have to do is take a look back on 2020 and think about everything that has gone on in your life. Hhhhhmmmmm there were sometimes of doubt for sure; and my word for the year TRUST was challenged when uncertainty crept in. It’s given me pause to think and really discover what the word TRUST really stood for in my everyday walk with our Lord.

Here’s what has brought incredible hope, faith, joy and TRUST in 2020. Selecting the word TRUST was the guiding light in my walk with the Lord this year; and still more to go. How did I remind myself the value of TRUST every second, minute, hour and day with the Lord? Praying everyday, speaking to God and praying with my prayer partners daily was a significant blessing for direction and reminder to TRUST God. Here’s what the bible reminded me of.

TRUST……we all have a different level of trust; very often based on how we were raised. Trust in the Lord with all your heart! I remember growing up hearing this in the small Methodist Church with the red door where I attended Sunday School. I am one of six children and my Dad would take all of us kids to church; the man was a Saint when I look back on it. Church was always a fun time with my Dad. No wonder Trusting “Our Father” was easy because it was something relatable to my earthly Dad. It made sense. Well, how about when things don’t make sense. Could be an illness, a job loss, infidelity, divorce; broken relationships; then what; where does your TRUST go? As a mature Christian, it should be unshaken. Right? Not so fast, it should be and we strive for that, however, it’s through the power of prayer we remind ourselves to Trust when things don’t seem right. In times like this we are reminded to pray over and over; Proverbs 3:5-6; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. When we go through difficult times and we need TRUST; God has even given us a helper; the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. So we are never alone; God never leaves us; we may stray from him but he never strays from us. Look forward to the journey ahead, take God with you every day, speak with him every day, remind yourself to TRUST in all circumstances. Ask for guidance and protection knowing he will answer. Be patient as God is more interested in a relationship with you and molding you into the person you are meant to be than in answering every prayer you request. The answer you want may not be the best God has to offer you; so you must TRUST his timing!

TRUST; this word has made me grow stronger in my Christian walk this year; knowing I was seeking ways to demonstrate my Trust in the Lord. There were plenty where “my” weak mind may have fallen without constantly building TRUST in God daily. May you gain strength, peace and feel God’s love as you too seek to Trust the Lord each day. Jeremiah says it so clearly. Jeremiah 17: 7-8. 7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

As we head into 2021 I am searching for a new word to build my walk with the Lord; I am in complete TRUST he will provide! With God’s blessing, Kathi

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, guide our minds and hearts to Trust you with each thought. Give us strength to TRUST even when we see the future is uncertain. The gate to a strong relationship with you is narrow and lead us through the narrow gate to experience all you have to offer us. May we be an example to others by the smile on our faces, the words we speak, the actions we take that people will know; because we TRUST you we experience the joy in living every day! Amen …Amen….Amen!
