Week 3, Day 12
Focus of the week: Giving yourself grace brings God’s peace
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:22-23
Please read Hebrews 10:15-23
Don’t know about you, but the older I get the more forgetful I become. I make lists for everything…..things to do, items to buy, places to go, people to pray for, etc. I have yellow Post-it notes in various places and sometimes I even write on my hand!! I do not want to forget a thing. However, today is not about us trying to remember things; it’s about God NOT remembering our sinful acts AT ALL when we draw near and turn to Him! It’s about the peace we get because of His grace and promise to remember our sins no more (Hebrews 10:17). He has wiped the slate clean of our sins. We do not need to torment and punish ourselves. We can live at peace with God’s grace.
Our focus verses today remind us of the Old Testament practice of sacrificing animals for the forgiveness of the people’s sins; for without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (Hebrews 9:22). This God-ordained ritual was a foreshadowing of the One true sacrifice to come, Jesus. His blood was the final and perfect sacrifice that paid for all the sins of all people. Where he is perfect, we are not! God made us and knows of our imperfections and that we’ll continue to sin while we are here on this earth. There is no need for us to keep beating ourselves up. “Once sins are taken care of for good, there’s no longer any need to offer sacrifices for them” (vs. 18). Did you get that?? Because Jesus Christ has paid the price for our sins, we do not need to over-pay.
Today, trust our Father who is full of grace and wants to not only take away our sinful wrong doings, but also the guilt and shame that goes along with it, so that we can experience God’s peace within our soul. Let’s sing praises to our Father who gives peace and grace to each one of us (and doesn’t use sticky notes for remembrance of sins)!
Dear Heavenly Father,
We continue to pursue peace within our hearts and turn to you for your bountiful grace. I am encouraged by and forever grateful for your promise that we are 100% clean because of the price your Son, Jesus Christ paid for our sins. I want to give myself grace and no longer make myself miserable by constant self-punishment for my sins. Instead, help me to breathe in your grace and draw near to you with a pure heart sprinkled clean of any evil. Let us continue to hold firmly to the hope we profess as we claim your promises today and every day. For you are faithful indeed! Amen
