Forty Days of God's Promises: To Use Us

June 9, 2020

Week 7 FOCUS OF THE WEEK: God’s calling in our lives

God promises to use us

"Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it :“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness."  Isaiah 42:5-7

All promises are fulfilled in Christ.

Please read Luke 5:1-11.

In the story of Jesus calling his first disciples, we see him getting into a boat with Simon and giving him instructions about where to fish. Simon obeyed by throwing his nets in the selected place. So many fish were caught that the nets began to break. Then Jesus states that they will now “be fishers of men”. God will also use us to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus; we need to focus on hearing his instructions and obeying his voice.

Today, let’s begin to be intentional in listening for God’s direction on how he wants to use us to build his kingdom and spread his love. His word tells us that he has called us to righteousness and will take us by the hand.  Let’s let God guide us instead of us trying to do this on our own. Remember, God has chosen you and called you by name. He has a plan and purpose. What is he asking you to do today to spread his love and peace?

If we will all look around…..He is showing us that there is LOTS of work to be done and fish to be caught.  We need to be ready by listening and obeying! We have to be prepared to act on what we hear and see. Do you have your nets washed, stretched and prepared?

Heavenly Father,

Although I may be down on this earth making plans, I pray that your purpose prevails. Use me so that your power and name might be proclaimed throughout all the world. It is my heart’s desire to build your kingdom not my own. Open my eyes and ears so that your calling is clear and my steps are guided by you. I pray that I abide in you and only you, all the days of my life. Amen.
