Forty Days of Promises: Week 2
Focus of the week: God walks with us in our daily life
God promises to give us provision
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you." Psalm 84:11-12
All promises are fulfilled in Christ.
Please read Matthew 6:25-33.
“Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” Sing it! It’s true. With God on our side, we do not need to worry. God’s word tells us that we have no need to worry over and over again. He even emphasizes how he cares for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, so of course he would take care of us. God doesn’t tell us not to stop worrying about food, shelter and clothing because we don’t really need them. He knows we need them. He wants us to stop worrying because he has promised to take care of every need we have.
If we believe that our God is powerful enough to provide us with life and a body, why can’t we believe that he is also powerful enough to provide for that life and body that he created? God asks that we seek Him first and not be anxious about anything. Trust that he will supply our needs….not necessarily our wants. One example I thought of is, when someone is in need of a car for reliable transportation and approaches God in prayer with the request, they should trust that God will provide exactly what they need. It may be a completely different make and model of a car than what they really wanted and it may not be in their timing, but rest assured that God knows their needs. We have to balance our wants with God’s wisdom and blessing. If we believe in him, he will take care of our needs; and we can concentrate on living our lives just as he intended!
This message of God’s provision may be difficult at a time like the present with uncertainties of the economy, jobs, incomes, medical advancements, socializing guidelines, etc. For some of us, it may be easy to doubt Jesus when he tells us not to worry. Today let’s be still and reflect on the promise that His favor and honor is upon us and he will take care of our every need. Don’t let worry steal your peace and joy. He will provide!!

Lord and Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your promise of provision. The blessings you offer us fill every need we have. Forgive us for time spent worrying instead of trusting. Our desire is to seek you first and not be anxious about anything. We are claiming your promise that no good thing will be withheld from those who walk uprightly. Our hearts are full knowing that you know our every need; and what we need is exactly what you provide.
In your son’s name we pray. Amen
