Forty Days of Prayer - Day 27

Day Twenty-Seven

Jonah 2:1-2,7

From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said:

“In my distress I called to the Lord,
    and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.

“When my life was ebbing away,
    I remembered you, Lord,
and my prayer rose to you,
    to your holy temple.”

If you recall the story of Jonah and the whale, you know that Jonah lived inside the “great fish” for 3 days while he cried, shouted and didn’t stop praying to God. In Jonah 2 we can tell these are the words of a desperate man who could have turned away, once more from God.  But he realized that even in his sin, God was still close by. God miraculously saved him!

As dark as the place may be where we sit and whatever it is we are going through, God is not far off or distant.  God is near.  For you and me, this brings great hope.  Jesus never abandons us when we are in the pit of life.  His presence is there and we truly only need to call upon His name. He can miraculously save us from our impossible situations, just like he did for Jonah.

Are you at a place where you are desperate for God to intervene? Let Him know it. Do you have a place or a spot to cry and scream out to God? Where can you go that feels special between you and our Almighty Father? A place you can go when you desperately need a breakthrough. It’s probably not a fish’s belly, but it may be somewhere unique or it may be your closet or war room. For me it’s often my car. I drive and cry out in desperation, as I look across the landscape and all that God lays in front of me. Then I listen for His voice as I LOOK around and wait for His comfort. What about you? Let us know if you have a “miracle territory” where you go to meet God and shout for His Presence.

Father of Heaven and Earth,

Some days feel too hard. I cry out in desperation of a breakthrough when I am struggling or worrying at every turn. Thank you for meeting me wherever I am and never leaving me to fend for myself. Thank you for letting me scream, cry and wrestle so you know how badly I need you.  Forgive me for doubting that you are working things out. You are trustworthy, powerful, and able. You are Lord over every situation no matter how difficult it may seem. Anything is possible with You. I am forever grateful for my Lord and Savior. Amen.
