While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill--while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for your are highly esteemed."
I have to confess to you that my knowledge about angels is limited. However, because I believe every word of the Bible to be true, my FAITH concerning angels is unshakeable. Here is what I do know from Scripture: angels worship God, angels obey God, and angels serve man. (Psalm 148:1-2; Psalm 103:20; Psalm 91:11).
In the above verse we have the privilege of "seeing" an angel. Gabriel was sent by God to serve Daniel by giving him a message filled with "insight and understanding." And what was Daniel doing? He was praying. The verse also says that Daniel was "highly esteemed." The ESV translation says it this way: Daniel was "greatly loved." So, like Daniel, when we pray in faith...God smiles in delight...and He moves in power.
Sisters, our part in the dealings of the divine is prayer. As we seek God, and as we plead with God, He sets things in motion. He can do whatever He wants in the spiritual realm to bring about His purposes in your life and mine. Again, our part in this process is prayer.
I think it's important to note in the above verse that Daniel was both "confessing his sin and the sin of his people" as well as "making his requests to the Lord his God". While on your knees today, before you begin your list of requests, humbly confess anything in your heart that does not belong there: anger, bitterness, fear, doubt...you name it repentently, and He'll forgive it completely. As you pour out these things, who knows, while doing so, angels wings may be "swiftly" set in motion ready to obey the voice of their Master on your behalf! Hold onto this truth today: "The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His" (2 Chronicles 16:9).
All day long, let's pray like Daniel, with humble hearts and fervent faith. Let's not waver in our worship. The God of the Angel Armies is waiting to work though the avenue of prayer.
