Forty Days of Prayer -- Day 5

January 10, 2020

'Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant, Jesus.' After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Acts 4: 29-31

Ladies, I have to admit that I have been completely convicted this week. I've gone through this little prayer book at least 3 times before. As I've read through my previous prayer lists and miracle sightings, I'm wondering what has happened to my faith.

When I started this prayer journey the times before, life was a little different for me. Circumstances were uncertain. We NEEDED God to intervene or we wouldn't make it. I'm not being dramatic. That is the truth! I asked God to do BIG things, because I was desperate for a change.

Today, I find myself desperate again. Life isn't nearly as uncertain. My family is much more comfortable than we were in 2015 when Missy first shared this book.. But, I'm desperate again. I'm desperate to see God work in miraculous ways. I'm tired of comfortable routines.

Just prior to the verses we read today about Peter and John, these words were spoken about them by people looking into their story, "Whey they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." (Verse 13)

Do you feel too comfortable in any area of your life? Does anything seem too ordinary and mundane? Could that be the very place that Jesus wants to show up? It would definitely get our attention. Today, would you be bold enough to ask God to make you desperate for Him. Our time here is so brief, so let's pray for the boldness to live in such a way that onlookers are astonished by Christ's work in and through us. Pray for a holy dissatisfaction in any area where God wants to do more.

Maybe this next level faith needs to be added to your impossible prayer list.

Maybe you need to reach out to a trusted friend over the weekend that will cry out to the Lord with you for bold faith..... faith that astonishes.

Additional Reading: Acts 4: 1-13; 2 Timothy 1:7; Philippians 1: 20-21

Heavenly Father, make us bold! Cause us to grow completely frustrated with comfort, routine, and safety. We want to courageously seek every, single blessing you have for us. Speak clearly today, Father. Show us where our prayer lives need to be infused with courage. Then, give us faith to follow through.
