And now...the new study begins...

Day One

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6

Well, sisters, here we are…beginning our 40 Day Prayer Journey. And let me tell you, I am so excited to experience this with all of you. If you are fully participating in the study, I am assuming that you started the day on your knees reading aloud (and with emotion) the prayer of St. Assisi.

And then, of course, you started and/or prayed over your impossible prayer list.

Oh, the impossible prayer list!

Some in this group couldn’t begin their list fast enough; they knew exactly what areas of their life desperately need God’s intervention. However, others in the group may have struggled with writing impossible prayers because they weren’t sure what was “appropriate” to pray for.

Here’s the truth, God cares about those big, desperate prayers that we pray. Of course He does! But He also cares about those small silent longings that we all have. You know, the things that perhaps we normally wouldn’t want to “bother” Him with. Isn’t that amazing! Mark Batterson said it beautifully in his book, Draw the Circle, “God is great not just because nothing is too big for Him, but also because nothing is too small for Him either.”

I love the instructions in Luke 11:9-10, where Jesus says "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." Our God is a great God!!

Ladies, as we go through these next forty days, let’s pray for God to show up and show out in our lives in ways that we can’t even ask or imagine. Let’s lay those prayers of desperation at His feet but let’s lay our dreams and desires there too. Then, let’s take the next steps: let's have faith and believe and take action as He directs. Let’s trust God to do something that seems impossible. Abraham did it, why can’t we?

For further reading: Genesis 15:1-6, Psalm 40:2-3, Matthew 7:7 and 21:22, Ephesians 3:20

Dear Lord, As we come into your presence today, we do so with praise and thanksgiving. We praise you, God, for who You are and we thank You in advance for how You will reveal Yourself to us over the next forty days. We boldly lay the desires of our hearts at Your feet with expectations that You are faithful! Lord, build a faith story in each of us just like you did for Abraham thousands of years ago. In Jesus’ name. Amen
