He also said, “Bring me the shawl you are wearing and hold it out.” When she did so, he poured into it six measures of barley and placed the bundle on her. Then he went back to town.
When Ruth came to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked, “How did it go, my daughter?” Then she told her everything Boaz had done for her and added, “He gave me these six measures of barley, saying, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ Ruth 3:15-17
Oh, how I love Ruth’s obedience!! Ruth continues to obey/submit; and Boaz continues to honor and provide for Ruth and Naomi again and again. Early on when Ruth first started gleaning, she went home with a little more than half a bushel of grain, but now Boaz fills her shawl with two bushels of grain, which would be more than two week’s supply. Boaz met Ruth’s present needs in a gracious and generous way. She had not asked him for anything as she continued to take care of Naomi, but he gave the grain to her because he loved her.
Ruth’s faith and obedience had brought about a complete transformation for her and Naomi, and now they were living by grace. Remember in verse 1:21, Naomi said, “I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me." Well, Naomi could no longer say that she is empty. Now she is full because of the grace of the kinsman-redeemer. She has more than she even imagined. I can picture Naomi when she saw all the grain that came her way in her daughter in-law’s shawl….. tears, joy, realization that God is walking with them.
Today, we get that same grace and generosity from our Savior because He loves us dearly. What about you….think about the times that God’s goodness has changed you or someone you know? I can relate to a time when I was ill and I didn’t know how I would make it through the day. By God’s grace, I had friends shower me with meals, take care of my children and even ran errands for me. I felt the love. My shawl was filled!!

Dear Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You with a grateful heart. I praise You for being our Creator of All and the source of all goodness and love. Today, I ask that I recognize how blessed I am and that I may be spiritually transformed due to your infinite grace and generosity. Change any worry, bitterness and emptiness I have to assurance, joyfulness and fullness. I want to move from complaining to thanksgiving. I want to recognize that when I am walking in obedience and my situation seems desperate that You are stepping in and fulfilling Your eternal plan of redemption. You provide and give freely. All glory and praise to YOU our Kinsman Redeemer!!
In your name I pray. Amen
