Audacious -- Week 11

Read: Ephesians 6: 1-17

Reflect: Let’s think on our scripture today in 2 sections. Please read through verses 1 through 9 on your own. Could we possibly be hit with the dynamics of relationships any more this week? Wow! God wants us to focus on this, ladies. And, I believe we are wise to pause and see what He wants to show us.

Over and over, Beth Moore has made the point that we are far too caught up in looking for the big adventure, the giant move, or the life-changing step. More often, audacious living is simply having the nerve to live meaningful lives in the middle of our ordinary. The relationships we’ve been given are part of our mundane and ordinary routines. I believe every one of us could shake up the boring by choosing to act differently in one or more of our relationships. The world will see and know that we are Christians by the way that we act in relationship to others…. By our love. So, are we loving according to Ephesians 6?

The second portion of our scripture deals with the armor of God. Do you find it a little odd that Paul’s instruction to guard ourselves with weapons from God follows the portion of scripture on relationships? I believe it was perfectly placed, but I’ll leave that for you to ponder on your own.

Respond: Today, I’d like for you to write out each of the pieces of armor and what scripture says about it. Then, voice (verbally or written) a prayer to God asking for Him to show you how to put on that piece of armor. The weapons are nice, but if we don’t know how to wear them, they’ll have no power in our lives.

Renew: I’ve loved this week of study with you. And, I’m really looking forward to our message tomorrow. I know it is going to teach, encourage, and convict.

In preparation today, could we just spend extra time in reflection. Maybe you’d like to look back over the past couple of weeks and be reminded of where God has taken you. Maybe you’d like to spend more time in some of the scripture passages. Let God’s Spirit guide you to be with Him this morning. Ask Him to prepare your heart for a timely message we will all hear tomorrow.

Ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory -- to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for His followers, oh, the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust Him….
